The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a transformative initiative that provides funding to eligible individuals with disabilities. The aim is to enrich lives by offering increased time with family and friends, greater independence, access to new skills, employment opportunities, and an overall improved quality of life.

Participants embark on a personalized NDIS journey by developing individual plans. These plans are designed to support individuals in leading ordinary lives and pursuing their unique goals. Participants have control over their budgets, deciding who provides their support, how, where, and when. Options include self-management, Plan Manager assistance, NDIA management, or a combination of these.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is an independent statutory agency responsible for implementing the NDIS. Their pivotal role is to support hundreds of thousands of Australians with significant and permanent disabilities, along with their families and carers, in achieving a better quality of life.

The NDIS was introduced to expedite access to necessary support for people with disabilities and their carers. The NDIS legislation was passed in March 2013, establishing the NDIS Act 2013, the Scheme, and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA).

The NDIS is Australia's inaugural National Scheme for people with disabilities. It directly provides funding to individuals, empowering them to tailor their support services to meet their unique needs and aspirations.
